Call for Help

7 weeks to go until Berlin Buzzwords 2014! We're already busy with preparations and planning and we're excited about the upcoming fifth edition of the event. For the conference days, we need some additional support. That's why we're asking you for help. We're looking for a few people who would like to be part of our team as a #bbuzz volunteer, assisting us and helping to make Berlin Buzzwords a great experience.

We're happy to publish the list of speakers and sessions for Berlin Buzzwords 2014 conference program!

This year's program is full of interesting topics. There is a good amount of machine learning/data analytics that makes a whole program track. Then we have a lot of search topics, some Hadoop talks. Storage/NoSQL talks are also in, although a bit less. We have great talks that offer background insights, e.g. "Scoring for human beings" by Britta Weber, "Randomize your tests and it will blow your socks off" by Dawid Weiss and "Consensus and Consistency" by Neha Narula.

The Open Stage is yours!

tl;dr - We're inviting you to submit your proposal for a talk or workshop on the Open Stage until May 8, 2014!

Are you working on a new project that you would like to share with others and get feedback? This year, we're having an Open Stage again, giving you the opportunity to hold a talk or workshop for a topic of your choice. This is the place for your thoughts and ideas or maybe for your first speaking experience in front of a kind and very interested audience.

The Call for Submissions is now closed

We are excited about more than 120 submissions for Berlin Buzzwords 2014! What an amazing finish: Nearly half of the talks were submitted on the last day of the Call. Every year it is really thrilling for us to observe the proposals coming in at the last moment. Again it seems that we have a huge amount of inspiring and terrific session ideas. In the next weeks our program committee will review and evaluate the numerous proposals. We will let you know a s soon as possible if your submission is accepted.

New Keynote Speaker: Katherine Daniels

Today we are glad to announce our next keynote speaker for Berlin Buzzwords 2014: Katherine Daniels.

Katherine Daniels is an operations engineer at GameChanger.io, where she focuses on automation and monitoring while occasionally dabbling in beer-driven development. Before escaping to the world of operations at NYC-based startups, she spent a few years doing QA and systems engineering in the corporate world.

Introducing our First Keynote Speaker: Ralf Herbrich

We are proud to announce our first keynote speaker for Berlin Buzzwords 2014.

Ralf Herbrich is Director of Machine Learning at Amazon. From 2011 to 2012, he worked at Facebook leading the Unified Ranking and Allocation team building large-scale machine learning infrastructure for learning user-action-rate predictors that enabled unified value experiences across Facebook products.

We want you on stage!

Berlin Buzzwords is looking for speakers who submit talks on the following topics:

• Information Retrieval / Search – Lucene, Solr, katta, ElasticSearch or comparable solutions
• NoSQL – like CouchDB, MongoDB, Jackrabbit, Hbase and others
• Large Data Processing – Hadoop itself, MapReduce, Cascading or Pig

Closely related topics not explicity listed above are welcome as well.
