Michael is Head of Engineering at ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers and scientists. He introduced Hadoop at ResearchGate in 2011 and led the transformation of all backend systems to a horizontally scalable architecture. In the process, ResearchGate built up a data warehouse to make all their scientific data available for in-depth analysis. Today, many user facing features are powered by batch jobs or stream processors and ResearchGate runs thousands of Hadoop jobs every day.
